The map being finished is not about the end of the Golden Age of Piracy; it's a reference to something Beckett says eariler ," the world is shrinking, the blank edges of the map filled in." He's trying to say, "we know everything now, we see everything, we control everything." There is nothing left to discover, nothing which exists beyond our knowledge. Which is not quite true...

I get why they may have removed the scene. It seems farfetched that Jones would know where his heart is after he realised it was gone, and to willingly surrender to the Company right away (which him taking off his hat seems to imply) is definitely out of character. However, the moment where the painter says the map is finished should absolutely have stayed in, that really drives home the point that the age of piracy has ended with Beckett gaining control over Jones.

I think the only reason they didn't keep this scene in was because there was no way to explain how Davy Jones knew the heart was in Beckett's hands at Port Royal.

Its some what humorous how many hands that sword has passed through. Will made it. The governor had it. Norrington had it. Norrington lost it and becket got it. Becket gave it back to norrington. Norrington got kill by bootstrap and the sword went to davy jones. Davy jones stabbed will with it and died when will stabbed Jones heart. Now the sword is back in will's hands again.

I’m just going to say it. Norrington is at his very hottest in Dead Man’s Chest.

I’m confused as to why they cut this scene, I personally understand what happened with jones and Beckett at the beginning of 3 but it would’ve definitely helped if they kept this in 2

Norrington delivers the heart of Davy Jones to Beckett and he offers Norrington to be the almirant of the East India Trading Company.

Beckett wanted the compass so he could use it to find the chest instead norrington brought the thing he wanted most

I understand why Walt Disney Pictures made this scene walk the plank (to leave it on a cliffhanger for Part III), but it should have been included on the home video releases and now on Disney+.

In the third film, Beckett says to Davy, “The world is bigger than you, Jones.” The connection of that scene with the map being finished makes this line way more meaningful

Really not a fan of this to be honest. The way the original scene ended leaves you with a feeling of suspense. We know that Beckett has the heart to control Jones and that Norrington wants his old life back, so we’re left In anticipation of that happening. I don’t feel that we need to see it in this scene. The start of the next movie establishes what’s happened, reunites Norrington with his sword and shows Beckett in control of Jones. Also, in this scene, why is The Dutchman already in Port Royal less than a minute after Beckett has the heart. It’s not a summoning tool, and Jones had no idea where the heart was, only that Jack had removed it from the chest.

Man i loved Norrington. His character was perfectly portrayed.
