I hate the Clara storyline. Actually feels a little disrespectful, splicing her into scenes like this and others and giving her credit for things the Doctor did in the past. But I guess if I'm complaining about the things they've done to this show, this was one of the lesser problems. I just hate seeing Moffat ruin this show with his weird bullshit that shouldn't have anything to do with Doctor Who.

It's been a while since I watched the movies, can someone explain how telling Becket that the map is finished is somehow a corollary to the age of the pirates ending? Were the pirates preventing the map from being finished or something? And also, was this explained somewhere explicitly, or is it just a poetic thought?

The subtle use of those two tracks from Goldfinger is great. Always loved that version of the Bond Theme. Sounds sophisticated, mysterious, fun, and catchy as hell with that base line and xylophone.

The map being finished is not about the end of the Golden Age of Piracy; it's a reference to something Beckett says eariler ," the world is shrinking, the blank edges of the map filled in." He's trying to say, "we know everything now, we see everything, we control everything." There is nothing left to discover, nothing which exists beyond our knowledge. Which is not quite true...
